  • Understand how to drive defensively

  • Become more relaxed behind the wheel

  • Save money on your fuel bills

  • Play a part in saving the planet from global warming

And prepare for:Smile

  • Part-Two of the UK driving instructors examination

  • The RAC Advanced Driving Test

  • The Diamond Advanced Driving Test

  • The Cardington Special Advanced Driving Test

If you are a beginner, just learning to drive I recommend that you complete the SmartLearners Course before this program. If you are training to become a driving instructor it will help to cross refer between this course and SmartLearners - you will also find extra material to support this course in the Members' area of the SmartDriving web site.

Will it take long to do the course?

HourglassBy spending just a couple of hours each week studying online and completing the in-car exercises you will master the driving skills required to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. Most people spend about ten weeks gaining their new skills.

You can complete the course alone, with a friend or in conjunction with professional driver training.

Whichever way you choose, you will find that the course has a powerful effect that can change your bad habits into good practice!

By using the course as directed (in addition to any practical training that you receive) you will gain:

  • A deep understanding of the driving task
  • An appreciation how to break driving down into a number of sub-skills
  • Sufficient skill to demonstrate driving methods from basic to advanced level
  • The confidence to pass your driving examination

You can find a selection of driving books in the SmartDriving Bookshop. Good starters are The DSA manual 'Essential Driving Skills', the police drivers' manual 'Roadcraft', 'The Highway Code' and 'Know your traffic signs'
