General information

The normal minimum age for driving in Ireland is 17 years.
You must hold a European Community driving licence or a recognised international driving permit, and carry it with you at all times when driving.
Minimum 'third party' insurance is compulsory.

A green card (insurance) is required for non-European Community registered vehicles. Uk drivers should check with their insurance companies.

Seatbelts (where fitted) must be worn by all car occupants. Children under 12 not allowed in front seat without appropriate child restraint.

The driver is responsible for ensuring that young people under the age of 17 years comply with the rules relating to seatbelts.

Dipped headlamps are advised for daytime driving.
Headlamps should have the necessary adjustment for driving on the left (left-hand drive cars).
Direction signs are mainly in kilometres - some older signs are in miles.

Blood alcohol max 80mg per 100ml of blood
In most areas petrol and diesel is available up to about 10 pm. In Dublin and other cities you will find some 24 hour garages.
